How much cooler is greener ground?
For each city and year, every 30 m pixel's greenness (NDVI) was compared with its surface temperature on one clear pre-monsoon Landsat day. The number is the fitted change in surface temperature for each +0.1 NDVI.

About this map
Data: USGS Landsat 8/9 Collection 2 Level-2 surface reflectance and surface temperature, via the Microsoft Planetary Computer. One scene per city-year (22 Feb to 8 May), chosen as the clearest scene closest to early April. Clouds, cloud shadows and water are masked. Each city is a fixed window of about 12 × 13 km around its core.
Relative heat is a pixel's temperature minus the city's mean land temperature that day, so years with hotter or cooler weather can be compared fairly. Actual °C is the raw land surface temperature, which is the temperature of roofs, roads and fields, not of the air.
The trend line and the numbers in the tiles come from the full analysis. In this map, water is approximated as pixels with NDVI ≤ 0. The relationship is a correlation: greener pixels also tend to be less built-up.
